ABOUT US
The OICAL is the strategy proposed by the IADR / LAR to activate the link between the divisions and IADR sections in Latin America.
The implementation of this initiative is supported by the project “Multi-country Training to create an Observatory of Early Childhood Caries (ECC) to Adolescence for the Latin American Region”, 2018-2019 “and by the related academic institutions. It focuses its interest in epidemiology, the determinants of dental caries in the course of the life course and in the results of the transfer of knowledge to clinical and health decision making. From the mother-child binomial to the adolescent they register as privileged actors of this initiative
VISSION
Mejorar la salud bucal en la niñez y la adolescencia de América Latina mediante la interacción de los centros académicos convocados por las divisiones y secciones del IADR participantes del proyecto.
MISIÓN
OICAL es un instrumento para la comunicación consensual de las estrategias que investigadores y académicos desarrollan para compartir la información basada en la evidencia científica al servicio los sistemas y servicios de salud bucal de América Latina.
Las funciones operativas del OICAL para cumplir con la misión expresada son:
1. Favorecer la competencia de los equipos participantes en los relevamientos epidemiológicos, mediante calibraciones sistemáticas.
2. Monitorear el perfíl epidemiológico de la caries dental, sus determinantes y sus consecuencias en las poblaciones focalizadas.
3. Difundir las líneas de investigación en desarrollo por los diferentes equipos, tendiendo a la creación de estudios multicéntricos o colaborativos.
4. Informar fehacientemente el impacto de las intervenciones realizadas en la región para el control de la caries dental y sus determinantes, considerando la inclusión de un repositorio de publicaciones pertinentes (citas requeridas).
FASES DEL PROYECTO
- Approval of funding from the Regional Development Program (RDP) of the International Association for Dental Research – IADR (www.iadr.org).
- Meeting of the coordinators from each country during April 2018 in Lima – Peru for re-calibration (coordinators of each country have been trained and calibrated in the ICDAS diagnostic criteria beforehand) and consensus on the use of tools to be used during the project.
- Beginning of epidemiological survey in each country and oral health related quality of life questionnaires.
